THE LOVER
Usagi had a love affair with... FOOD! Yep, that's right. Usagi was quite a glutton, you see. The food that she loved the most was Makoto's, of course. In fact, it was Makoto's scrumptious food that gave Usagi the extra push to befriend the "trouble-making" brunette. Anyway, it was a good thing that she was naturally skinny, that she had a high metabolism rate, and/or that she got a work-out whenever she fought the enemy or else... ^^;
Moving on...
Chiba Mamoru
The main couple in the series was, of course, Tsukino Usagi and Chiba Mamoru. Their love story was quite complicated and it spanned a long, long time. Let's start from the beginning, er, I mean middle, okay? Mind you, the following
only concerns the anime.
Usagi and Mamoru met in the first episode. Usagi, not wanting her mother to see her test which she did poorly on, crumpled it up and threw it over her shoulder. It landed on Mamoru's head. Mamoru looked at it, saw the lousy mark, and sneered at her. Not only that, he called her Odango Atama (Dumpling Head). Naturally, Usagi got upset. This was pretty much the start of their feud.
So whenever they saw each other, insults were traded. Then it got worse, for lack of a better word, when Rei began crushing on Mamoru. Rei and Mamoru shared a common, um, interest and that was to tease Usagi. So yeah, Mamoru wasn't exactly prince charming. He wasn't at all like Usagi's, or rather Sailor Moon's savior, the mysterious Tuxedo Kamen.
Usagi found out about Mamoru being Tuxedo Kamen in episode 34. The Dark Kingdom found out about Tuxedo Kamen's civilian form in the previous battle and thus sent Zoisite to retrieve the two nijizuishou from him. Mamoru was on his way to the Starlight Tower when Usagi saw him. When she realized he was hurt, she started following him. Zoisite brought them into the tower and Mamoru, concerned about Usagi's safety, asked him (yes, Zoisite was a guy) to take her away. Zoisite agreed but only if Mamoru brought out the two nijizuishou which he carried. Zoisite brought out the five nijizuishou he had first, then Mamoru brought out his. When all seven nijizuishou were accounted for, Kunzite appeared and took them. Realizing he'd been tricked, Mamoru threw a rose at Kunzite but he only disappeared. The rose struck Zoisite in the cheek instead. By this time, Usagi woke up. (Did I mention she fainted/fell unconscious? No? Well, she did.) Zoisite got upset and told Mamoru to go upstairs.
The floor they were on started to shake. Usagi and Mamoru ran into the elevator where he told her about his past: that his parents died in an accident and that he lost his memories. He hoped that by combining the nijizuishou to form the elusive Ginzuishou, he would finally know who he really was. He also told her about the girl in his recurring dream. Meanwhile, while the elevator was on its way up, Zoisite threw a fireball at it. Usagi knew she had to transform. If not, they'd be killed. And so she did. Mamoru saw her transformation, of course.
(Let's fast-forward, shall we? I don't want to summarize the entire episode.) Princess Serenity appeared in place of Sailor Moon when Tuxedo Kamen was fatally injured. The Ginzuishou appeared too when the nijizuishou fused together. Then the relationship between Usagi and Mamoru became clear. Serenity and Endymion, Mamoru's past/other self, were lovers during the Silver Millenium. They were killed by Beryl when she attacked the Moon. Because Queen Serenity loved her daughter very much, she sent her, Endymion, and the court to Earth a thousand years into the future.
When Beryl had Tuxedo Kamen/Endymion kidnapped and brainwashed,
Usagi was a wreck. But she did her best to save him. And on the day Sailor Moon faced him in Beryl's fortress, she tried to help him remember by showing him the locket he gave her and telling him about their past. And he did. He died protecting her.
Ail/Seijurou
Usagi loved Mamoru very much. So much so that she remained loyal to him even though other guys -- Seijuurou (Ail), Demondo, and Kou Seiya -- had feelings for her. In the first part of the R season, Seijuurou had a humongous crush on Usagi. But Usagi didn't encourage him or anything. Besides, she was too busy trying to win Mamoru back. You see, when Beryl was finally destroyed, the memories of Usagi, Mamoru, and the girls (the Inners) were wiped out. Usagi got hers back because there was a new enemy. So anyway, Mamoru forgot all about his relationship (past and present) with Usagi and about his alter persona, Tuxedo Kamen. Usagi's mission was further hindered when Natsumi set her eyes on Mamoru. Although Mamoru tried to keep away from Usagi, Usagi was determined. Heck, she even drew pictures of Serenity and Endymion and showed them to him! Mamoru eventually got his memories back when Sailor Moon shielded him from an enraged Ann's (Natsumi's true form) attack in episode 59.
Chibiusa
In the second part, Usagi and Mamoru's relationship hit another snag (actually three snags, but hey, who's really counting?) The first snag was in the form of
Chibiusa. Chibiusa became too attached to Mamoru that Usagi felt she had to compete with the younger girl for his time and affection. It wouldn't have been bad if she was in good terms with Chibiusa, but she wasn't. When she and Chibiusa were having an argument or something, Mamoru almost always took Chibiusa's side. Although Usagi didn't like the way things were going, she endured.
Mamoru
The second snag was Mamoru himself (or rather his dreams). Mamoru kept dreaming that if he continued being with Usagi, she would die. And so he broke up with her. He didn't tell her that it was for her safety though. He just told her he didn't want to be with her anymore. Usagi was crushed. She tried to win him back, but he was stubborn. Needless to say, the only connections they had during their break were Chibiusa and their responsibilities as Senshi. They reconciled in episode 77 though. Actually, it was Usagi who approached him first after having the same dream.
Demando
The third snag was Prince Demando. You see, Demando was obsessed with Neo-Queen Serenity. When he and his family chased Chibiusa into the past (or present-day Tokyo) and saw Sailor Moon, he realized that she and the Neo-Queen were one and the same. He then kidnapped and tried to hypnotize her into thinking she was in love with him, but Usagi's love for Mamoru was strong. She was eventually rescued by Tuxedo Kamen.
Fisheye
In SuperS, Usagi found a rival for Mamoru's affections in Fisheye. Actually, Mamoru didn't really have any feelings for Fisheye; rather, it was Fisheye who became infatuated with Mamoru's good looks. Would you like me to
elaborate? If not, then please head on over to
