[ AS A GIRL ]

Suzuhara Misaki, a junior high student, is a soft-spoken girl. She leaves her grandparents in the country and travels alone to Tokyo to live with her journalist Aunt named Shouka. When she arrives in Tokyo, the first thing that catches her eye is the wide screen TV on top of a building (similar to what you'd find in New York). Anyway, the TV is showing a tournament where people called deuses control dolls and duel with each other. She becomes awestruck when she sees one particular doll sprout snow white wings and majestically and almost immediately defeats its opponent. A man by the name of Icchan approaches and encourages her to get her very own doll and compete in the tournament. She is reluctant at first (she doesn't thinks she can fight well), but decides to try her luck anyway. She chooses a light-weight doll, gives her personality, clothes her in red, yellow and white spandex suit, and names her Hikaru.

Misaki has a wonderful array of traits (as far as I'm concerned, she's close to perfection; really). She's very good in doing domestic chores. She wakes up early in the morning to clean up before leaving for school even though she's not expected to do it. She also cooks different kinds of scrumptious dishes and shares it with everyone. Her Aunt and Tamayo both asked her if she would be their bride because her cooking is THAT delicious :P

What else? She's polite and friendly. She doesn't harbor any ill feelings toward people who are mean to her. (But no, I don't think she's a walk-all-over-me-doormat. She just isn't as jaded as the rest of us.) There are times when she can be naive or dense. For instance, she is oblivious to the fact that Kotaro likes her. Although at one time, it looks as if there might be something going on between them (in episode 12), she dismisses the idea. It's not as if she thinks he's beneath her or anything like that; it's just that her concentration is solely focused on trying to find out what could be Hikaru's major flaw, not on finding romance. Another example is when she willingly gives her doll to be checked by another deus and her sister. It never crosses her mind that their behavior is rather fishy (or suspicious).

As far as appearance goes, her hairstyle is unique. (That's her most distinguishing feature. I mean, look at those sideburns--they're pretty long ^^v) She's small and short. Compared to other girls her age, she's tiny. She can be self-conscious at times especially when Sai points out that Hikaru has a weakness. Because a doll can be a representation of one's self, Misaki thinks that there's something about her that would affect Hikaru's performance on the Layer. She admits that she's not very good at sports and wonders whether this is what Sai is talking about. Wanting to improve herself (and to learn more techniques), she agrees when Kotarou asks her out (not on a date, per se; he wants her to watch him practice karate). Although she desperately wants to find out the flaw, she never asks anyone (Icchan and Sai especially) to help her what it is. She learns it while her doll is actually fighting Sai's Shirahime. Realizing that Shirahime is a heavyweight (and thus packs more wallop) compared to Hikaru, she uses the layer's surroundings to her advantage. This clearly shows us her resourcefulness and quick thinking.

And as far as academic status goes, the anime doesn't really show us how she does in school. But we can safely assume that she's a bright girl. She has, after all, demonstrated her intelligence in the way she handles herself as a deus. For instance, when she's battling against Oujirou's Wizard, she realizes that Magic Guard has something to do with electricity. And so she has her Hikaru break one of her cables and allow it touch the ground to short circuit Wizard's defense. Icchan, who has witnessed the entire thing, is impressed by her brilliance. No one has ever broken through Wizard's seemingly impenetrable energy shield before let alone win against the Prince of the Layer. Misaki is indeed Shuuko's daughter!
